Being a first time mother has indeed fulfilled and completed me in a way I never knew life could. It has given my life a new purpose. It was 2:00 am, after the final feed for the night and I kept pacing the passageway, trying to rock him off to sleep again. Every mum can relate to this moment, when day’s events are playing out in your mind, and you try to plan for the next day. At the top of my list, was the immeasurable task of going out into a busy mall to find my son the perfect outfit for his welcoming ceremony. I knew that from my previous shopping pursuits there was nothing that ticked all of my boxes, and I will now have to settle for an outfit that was moderately close to what I had in mind.
The next morning I eagerly reached out to my “black book of ideas” and with a drumming heart started to draw out my thoughts for creating the best quality children’s clothing brand with the most kid friendly design that will become a favourite in every child’s closet. This was the moment of planting the first seed of My Cotton Tree.
I was hungry for new knowledge about the latest colours, trends and textures in children’s fashion. During my travels, I always browse at the children’s clothing range in stores, before I pick something for myself. The idea to differentiate my brand was to find you natural breathable fabrics that would be cool for summer and cosy for winter.
It was my curiosity for this idea that led me to a quaint little factory on the beautiful island of Mauritius. I had seen seamstress work with the precision of a surgeon, in order to create the perfect garment. The combination of luxury and affordability can on many occasions be disparate. I had walked into the opportunity to create a seamless mix of both that will add an authentic connection with its precious little users. Everybody has their moment of brilliance, and this was mine. I had found the hands that would make my dream of creating the perfect garment for any child, become a reality.
The idea of starting my own clothing brand for children had taken over my imagination. As I wait to launch my brand in the next few days, the excitement has simply amplified. I aim to create a brand that allows your child to fearlessly explore a world of delightful possibilities.
Everyone has their 2:00 am moment. Be passionate, fearless and follow the idea that you’ve been flirting with, and take the first step to making it happen. Innovative ideas are born through the need of not having something work for you, in the way that you want it to, when you want it to. So don’t wait for a “mood” to start something brilliant. Don’t settle!
Create the space in your life to act on the ideas that are lingering in your mind’s eye. Love what you do, and do what you love. Why do we stop believing in our hearts and tend follow someone else’s dream? Always remember “it’s far better to live your own path imperfectly than to live another’s perfectly.” (Bhagavad Gita).
Let’s follow our heart!
With love and smiles
